Hairdresser reveals the products you think are good but are secretly ruining your locks & dry shampoo is top of the list | The Sun

A HAIRDRESSER has revealed the four products that you think are good, but are secretly ruining your locks.

Salon owner Mary warned people to "stop using these products", as she began her list with Batiste dry shampoo.

"It's far too heavy to be using on your hair frequently," she explained in her video on TikTok.

"The reason why it's an issue is cause it's really difficult to completely shampoo out of your hair unless you're using a detox shampoo.

"If this isn't washed out properly, it builds up on the scalp, it can block hair follicles and that can lead to hair loss or lack of hair growth."

Next on her warning list was the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle deep treatment, as she said: "The only miracle about this is that it's still being sold."

"This is really, really not good for your hair," Mary continued.

"It has insoluble silicone in there.

"Insoluble silicone is silicone that cannot be broken down by water, which means it's very, very difficult to wash out.

"Silicone is essentially plastic – if that builds up on your hair and you're also heat styling, you're essentially melting your hair, just waiting for it to break off.

"It really isn't a very good conditioner.

"I know it can make your hair feel great, but it's all just superficial."

Mary went on to slam Herbal Essences' Hello Hydration shampoo, as she said: "Hello hydration and hello stripped colour and stripped hair.

"This is got sodium lauryl sulfate in it, the sulfate that you really do wanna stay away from.

"It can irritate the scalp, it can dry out the hair, it can strip colour.

"Just not a great ingredient."

And the last product she warned against using is John Freida's Frizz Ease serum.

"Again, our good friend insoluble silicones are rife within this product," she said.

"So if you're using this daily or you're applying it pretty liberally and applying a lot of it that's then going to buildup on your hair.

"It needs to be thoroughly washed out and if it's not it leads to more damage, especially for heat styling – it's just a one way ticket to breakage."

Concluding her video, Mary added: "This is no shade at all, I'm just trying to educate the masses on ingredients and perhaps making some better choices here and there within the hair care routine if they're finding that their hair isn't quite where they want it to be."

But lots of people in the comments section admitted that salon products are just too expensive for their budget.

"Girl some of us cannot afford nice products," one wrote.

"Too bad my budget for hair products is £2-£3 but the 'good' products are more than my food budget for 2 people for a week," another agreed.

"Please can you recommend some affordable products that are better for your hair?" a third asked.

"I never know what to buy."
