Strictly Come Dancing is set to air its first live show this weekend.

On Saturday (September 23) night, all 15 couples will take to the dancefloor and show off their moves in a bid to impress the judges as well as the BBC One viewers watching at home. However, the highly-anticipated live show has been hit with a few issues in the form of injuries and illness.

As Strictly 2023 kicks off, Daily Star has taken a look back at the chaotic build up to the first live show of the series, including a rumoured rift between one couple.

Bedbound judge

Earlier this week, Shriely Ballas sparked fears she could be forced to miss the first live show after being struck down with a mystery illness. Taking to her Instagram Story on Wednesday (September 20), the head judge shared a video of herself lying in bed.

She told the camera: "What a difference a day makes. So back from Rome where it was busy, lots of people and then in the studio because we are running up to the Royal Albert Hall international championships. And yes I think I have caught something. So not very well today, not in work. Want to rest and make sure I’m ready for Strictly on Saturday."

However, a few hours later, Shirley shared another video of herself showing that she was able to sit upright in her bed. Speaking to the camera again, she said: "Feeling poo, poo but mum made me two boiled eggs in my favourite little pot and some toast. I never eat toast and some black tea. What would I do without my mum? I feel blessed."

Injuries

Waterloo Road and Emmerdale star Adam Thomas as been spotted wearing a wrist support ahead of the first live show. The actor looked in pain as he was photograph heading to rehearsals in Manchester this week. Adam has recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Former Family Fortunes presenter Les Dennis also admitted that his first training session left him struggling to get out of bed and Love Island beauty turned documentary maker Zara McDermott told her social media followers that her feet were "bleeding" after intense rehearsals with partner Graziano Di Prima.

Rehearsals 'disaster'

RIp-Off Britain host Angela Rippon has been training with Kai Widdrington ahead of their first dance together but things quite haven't gone to plan.

Speaking in a video posted on social media , the TV presenter said: "I just finished my first ever session of rehearsals on the dance floor here on the set of Strictly Come Dancing in Elstree. We all get three goes at it on the set, and I have to say the first one was a bit of a disaster, the other two were okay, but Kai and I don’t have any more rehearsal time together.

“So I feel that once I leave the studio and get home, I’m going to be wearing a groove in the dining room floor as I go over the routine on my own again, and again, and again."

Just hours before the first live show, it was reported that actress Amanda Abbington had "threatened to quit" Strictly following a series of rows with partner Giovanni Pernice. The Sun claimed that the pair were "at loggerheads" due to the dance professional's "militant" attitude in training.

However, the pair have since brushed the feud rumours by posting on social media ahead of their first routine on the famous dancefloor. Sherlook star Amanda posted a smiley snap of herself in rehearsals ahead of tonight's live show. Her caption read: "The smile you give your Pro partner at the end of the camera rehearsal when you know you are in safe and hugely talented hands. @giovannipernice ya legend. See you all tomorrow @bbcstrictly."
