I’m A Celeb: Lorraine Kelly likens Sam Thompson to a ‘toddler’

Lorraine Kelly has come under fire over her remark about I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Sam Thompson who has ADHD.

The star was excited to sing jungle karaoke alongside Marvin Humes after tucking into pizza and chips on the latest episode of the reality series.

While discussing Sam’s enthusiasm with Michael Ball, Lorraine compared him to a toddler who had eaten all the blue Smarties.

She shared: “He is… Yeah he’s like a puppy,” to which Michael replied: “The thing is you’d smack his legs then he’d go, ‘Oh fair enough’, and then he’d be back for more.”

Lorraine added: “He’s irrepressible but also he is a toddler that has eaten all the blue Smarties…”

However, her comment did not sit well with viewers who lashed out on social media to remind Lorraine that Sam had been diagnosed with ADHD.

Taking to Twitter, Emma fumed: “Way to go to support the ADHD community saying he’s the toddler who has eaten all the blue sweets. Well done Lorraine.”

Steve added: “So #Lorraine says that Fred is pushy because he’s French and ADHD suffered Sam is like a toddler that has eaten too many sweets…how the hell is she still on the telly?”

Liz penned: “Perhaps Lorraine could learn about ADHD rather than say Sam had eaten too many blue sweets. #Lorraine.”

Olivia remarked: “Got #lorraine on the TV in the background whilst I potter about and she’s discussing #ImACelebrity with Lucie Cave and Michael Ball. MB has just described Sam Thompson as ‘adorable ‘ and #lorraine called him a puppy, adding ‘he is a toddler who’s eaten all the blue smarties’!”

Despite the backlash, other viewers were more focused on who might win this year’s I’m A Celebrity which draws to a close on Sunday evening.

Sue penned: “Hard to pick who’ll win it. Sam and Tony [Bellew] are hilarious #lorraine.”

Another viewer simply shared: “Nigel [Farage] is my favourite! #lorraine.”

According to bookmakers Coral, Sam is the favourite to win this year’s series with his odds at 10-11 to be crowned King of the Jungle.

“Sam Thompson continues to attract strong support to win the series, and the reality TV star is now odds-on to be crowned the King of the Jungle,” added John Hill.

So far, Frankie Dettori, Nella Rose and Fred Sirieix have been voted off the programme by viewers. Jamie Lynn Spears and Grace Dent quit on “medical grounds”.
