Emmerdale: Amy gives Chloe advice

Charity Dingle (played by Emma Atkins), Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) and Chloe Harris (Jessie Elland) will be involved in a horror car crash which quite literally leaves their lives hanging in the balance in Emmerdale.

ITV has released pictures of the upcoming scenes which will air next week as part of this year’s Super Soap Week storylines.

They show the trio covered in blood in a car on a clifftop which has been involved in a crash.

In another image, Chloe and Charity are seen reaching out for Mack to save them as the car dangles over the cliff.

Ahead of the dramatic scenes airing, Express.co.uk has all you need to know about how they were filmed.

The chaos is being conducted by director Matt Hilton and when he called action the car crash unfolded.

For the stunt, the car was attached to a tractor via a spring line and was flown into the air before smashing through a wall.

“I’ve never done a wire pull before, but it went perfectly, which is surprising,” Matt admitted to OK! “I’ve done a few stunts at Casualty, I’ve hit a car with a train, hit people with cars, I’ve set a couple of things on fire – a bit of everything.”

“In terms of this stunt, the hour-long episode has been my favourite bit to film,” he added.

According to the publication, the stunt required 50 crew members, five red Ford C-Max cars, four make-up artists, one tractor as well as the stars who play Charity, Chloe and Mack.

They also had stunt doubles and mannequins which they have posed for behind-the-scenes pictures with.

A gimbal containing a spinning car was used for another part of the stunt for filming inside the vehicle as it was thrown into the air after the collision.

The actors involved likened the gimbal to a “giant washing machine”.

ITV soap spoilers have revealed Mack regains consciousness after the smash but starts panicking when he realises the car is suspended on the edge of a cliff.

He tries to climb out of the car, but as he escapes, the vehicle creeks and shifts.

Charity and Chloe remain trapped in the vehicle and need Mack’s help before the car slips off the cliff’s edge. Will they both survive?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
