EX-MANCHESTER UNITED starlet Charlie Savage has sensationally claimed that Reading's training ground is "on par" with Carrington.

Savage, 20, left Old Trafford for the League One side on a free transfer this summer.

The young Wales midfielder, son of Robbie Savage, spent 15 years at United, graduating from the academy in 2021.

And his old side have fallen behind both on-and-off the pitch in recent years.

United supporters have been critical of the Glazers' lack of investment in both Old Trafford and the Carrington training ground.

Former United player Cristiano Ronaldo launched a scathing attack on the out-dated facilities in an explosive tell-all interview with Piers Morgan in 2022.

The football icon reportedly returned feeling that no upgrades had been made since he first left the club for Real Madrid in 2009.

And now young Savage has hinted at United's lack of evolution.

He told Reading's YouTube channel: "Reading's training ground- I heard it was good but I didn’t realise it was this good.

"Honestly, I'd say it's on par with United at the minute."

To make matters worse, newly-relegated Reading sit 22nd in League One, after a dismal start to life in the league.

In 2019, owner Dai Yongge spent millions on the Bearwood training ground.

Old Trafford club legend Gary Neville has urged the owners of Manchester United to knock down the current facilities and spend £1billion in order to catch up with their league rivals.

Neville told Sky Sports: "They probably need another £500-£600m on a training ground and other projects."

Former player Morgan Schneiderlin has also echoed similar sentiments to Ronaldo and Neville, by claiming there was a “weird feeling” at the club.

Schneiderlin told the Daily Mail: “For me, it's the biggest club in the world, so the training ground needed to be more modern and other things need to change."

The current ownership – which could change in the near future – are said to have made 'interim modifications’ ahead of long term renovation plans.
