‘McDonalds bangs’ are trending on TikTok – here’s how to get the look at home
September 7, 2023There’s been no shortage of food-related beauty trends lately. From blueberry milk maniuces to strawberry girl summer makeup, it seems we can’t get enough of drawing inspiration from our meals.
The latest foodie trend to go viral is McDonalds bangs, which sees beauty fans taking inspiration from the fast food chain’s iconic golden arches and mirroring it with their hair.
Similar to the Scandi blow out hair trend that went viral earlier in the summer, the style revolves around creating a flattering M shape with your hairline, with many people also combining it with the Scandi hairline trend to create some truly golden arches. as perfectly executed by Scandinavian influencer Matilda Djerf.
With almost 2 million views and counting on TikTok, beauty fans have been sharing how they create the look at home, and celebrity hairstylist Alicia Dobson, also known asHair to Help, has shared her tips with us on how to get the look for yourself.
Alicia recommends using the Bellissima 8 in 1 Air Wonder Hot Air Styler, £99.95 here, throughout the styling process, as you can switch up which nozzles and settings you need instantly, and it has everything you need to create the look.
The trend is best done with clean hair, so start off by washing your hair using your usual haircare routine, before applying a heat protectant spray to it and drying your hair using the drying nozzle from the styler.
She also suggests swapping to the detangler nozzle towards the end of your drying process to help make your hair as smooth and knot-free as possible.
Next, separate the front sections of your hair from the rest, and use the 50mm round-shaped brush attachment to curl your sections underneath, paying extra attention to the roots to help give it plenty of volume and the arch shape you’re aiming for.
Once you’ve created the frame of the M-shaped arches, Alicia recommends swapping to a smaller barrel, like the 23mm one, and curl the sections away from your face, which helps create a more natural-looking swoop and blends the ends back into the rest of your hair.
For a final dose of volume and to help your McDonalds bangs hold their shape, finish off with a spray of volumising hairspray, like the Living Proof Full Dry Volume & Texture Spray, £15 here.
TikToker Olivia Dayton has also shared a video showing exactly how she achieves her perfect golden arched hairline, andher videohas racked up more than 1.4million views.
In her video, Olivia also uses a heated round brush, similar to the Revlon One-Step Style Booster – Round Brush Dryer & Styler, Round Brush, £39.99 here, and uses it to dry her fringe in multiple different directions to help increase the volume and shape around her hairline.
If you’re trying to limit the heat on your hair, Olivia alsoshared a videoshowing how she achieved a similar look without any heat at all, my simply arranging her hair into the desired shape and clipping it in place whilst it dried, before removing the clips and showing off the style.
Three different ways to create the perfect McDonalds bangs – the golden arches will never be the same again.
