This is the heart-stopping moment hero neighbours rescue a little girl dangling 70ft in the air from a fifth-floor window of a flat in China.

The girl was left helplessly hanging by her neck from the security bars of an apartment building in Chongqing, south-central China.

In phone footage of the daring rescue, the child, who looks to be about four or five years old and is wearing a pink dress, tries to free herself with her hands as a brave neighbour clambers up the front of the building to reach her.

As he edges closer, with her situation becoming more precarious by the second, other onlookers set up a makeshift safety net by stretching out a blanket, preparing for the worst, as another resident scales the building to help.

One of the men tries to help the girl from beneath her as the other neighbour approaches.

Luckily, despite the rain, they managed to set her free and carefully guide her back through the window safely, with the child sustaining no serious injuries.

The shop owner next door, Mr Chen, was one of the men who helped during the ordeal, which took place on the morning of August 25.

He told local media the rescue lasted around ten minutes from the first sighting of the struggling girl.

The parents are reported to have gone out to buy vegetables, leaving the child home alone.

Chen said: ‘I wasn’t worried about myself. At that time, the young girl was hanging completely outside the window, and I just wanted to rescue her as quickly as possible.

‘I didn’t think too much. People downstairs found a ladder, so I climbed up.’

According to Chen, the other person involved in the rescue was Mr Zhao, a neighbour from the young girl’s house.

Chen added: ‘At that time, she was very agitated, crying and shouting for her mother.

‘We comforted her, and once she was calm, I climbed back into the neighbouring window and came down safely.’
