Netflix has dropped The Fall of the House of Usher just in time for Halloween with the eight-part series proving to be a delightfully macabre watch.
From Mike Flanagan – who was also behind fright fests The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor – The Fall of the House of Usher takes its cue from American horror master Edgar Allan Poe’s works.
The show even features cast from Flanagan’s previous horrifying outings The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor with some crossover.
Horror fans have raced through the episodes – here is a rundown of the main plot points from the finale titled The Raven.
What was the deal between Verna and Roderick?
Verna (played by Carla Gugino) struck a deal with a young Roderick Usher (Zach Gilford) and Madeline (Willa Fitzgerald) struck a Faustian pact in which they would become rich beyond their wildest dreams with the next generation picking up the tab for them.
In the present day, Verna was simply collecting her end of the bargain with all of the Usher blood extinguished.
Who was the body in the wall?
Viewers learnt Rufus Griswold (Michael Trucco), the CEO of Fortunato met a sticky end after he was lured into the basement of the building and then killed with cyanide.
However, he was given a slow death with the executive getting buried alive in the wall after he was tricked by Madeline and Roderick.
They had planned it perfectly with the board choosing them after he stopped the Federal investigation into Fortunato.
Nevermore, sweet Lenore
Lenore Usher (Kyliegh Curran) was the last victim Verna collected and the one the supernatural being took no pleasure in collecting.
Before killing her gently, Verna told the teen all the good her death would bring and the deeds her mother Morelle Usher (Crystal Balint) would do in her name.
Moreover, Lenore lived on in an AI app after she gave her data to grandmother Madeline (Mary McDonnell) to be harvested.

Roderick and Madeline’s deaths
The brother and sister duo were the last lives to be claimed with the siblings dying together.
Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) falsely believed he’d killed Madeline and replaced her eyes with sapphires as he replicated an ancient Egyptian burial ritual reserved for pharaohs and queens.
In a grisly twist, just like her mother Eliza Usher (Annabeth Gish), Madeline hadn’t succumbed to death and came out of the basement to take Roderick to the afterlife with her.
A terrified Auguste Dupin (Carl Lumbly) fled from the Usher house as it literally collapsed with Roderick and Madeline in the ruins.
Roderick’s legacy was all the people dead from Ligodone.
Dupin also witnessed Verna transforming into a raven, suggesting she was the harbinger of death.

The fate of Arthur Pym
The Usher family attorney Arthur Pym (Mark Hamill) had his own reckoning with Verna after he thought he’d tracked her down and killed her.
She too offered him a deal but said he would take his chances.
As Verna prophesied, Arthur went down for his crimes after assisting the Usher family in all their dubious and illicit dealings over the years.
Arthur faced justice after Camille’s assistants turned over a mountain of evidence to the police with Pym dying in prison from a lengthy sentence.
Juno’s revenge
Roderick’s wife Juno Usher (Ruth Codd) got the Usher fortune including all the wealth made from the corrupt pharmaceutical company Fortunato.
She dissolved it all and became the Phoenix Foundation to help those affected by Ligodone.
She also managed to wean herself off Ligodone after being on such a high dosage.
