He’s hardly had a kick all game, but he’s on hand to tap in from a yard out after Salah fires it across goal.

Jota does well to feed Salah in the box amid a melee of bodies, but it’s Gakpo’s touch that counts!

Double change on the horizon for Liverpool

Looks like two more changes for Klopp now, with Elliot and Nunez getting ready in the dugout.

Only eight minutes into the second half and we could be three changes down for the visitors.

Wolves much deeper

Wolves a lot deeper when not in possession, probably trying to work out the tactical change from Liverpool.

Jones sends Hwang with a lovely drop of the shoulder on the edge of the box, but he’s unable to get away and is shrugged off the ball.

Diaz gets clear out on the left, but Semedo slides in brilliantly to deny the cross and get a goal kick for his side.

No respite for Gomez

Wolves just standing off Liverpool a bit more than they were in the first half.

But Bellegarde certainly isn’t changing his approach, holding off a number of defenders before releasing Cunha.

Cunha takes on Jota and Gomez before crossing into the middle, but can’t find Hwang.

Good start from Liverpool

Well it does look like Gakpo is dropping into attacking midfield for Liverpool after that change in a 4-1-4-1 with Jones up there with him.

And the Reds almost get an immediate euqaliser!

Hwang forgets to track Robertson, who crosses straight into the middle for Diaz to run onto, but it sneaks round the post.

Good start from Liverpool.

Here we go for the second half then!

Change at the break

Well Carragher was close.

Mac Allister is coming off for Diaz.

Unclear if it’s tactical or an injury – but Mac Allister is sitting very low in his seat looking pretty sheepish.

Liverpool are already out on the pitch, but Wolves are happy to let them wait as they linger in the tunnel.

Triple change needed?

Carragher has seen enough – he wants three changes at half-time.

Maybe a bit harsh on Jota, but Gakpo and Mac Allister have certainly struggled.

In case you missed it…

Well what a game we have on our hands!

Wolves erupted out the blocks and Liverpool just couldn’t handle it.

Hwang got the goal after seven minutes of action after some fantastic work from Neto out on the left and Liverpool struggled to come up with a response.

Ait-Nouri and Semedo were diligent at both ends of the pitch for Wolves at full back, with the latter putting in a number of dangerous crosses throughout the half.

But the stars of the show were Neto and Bellegarde, who combined and put together move after positive move down the left and through the middle, and Mac Allister, Szoboszlai and Gomez struggled to contain them.

Liverpool began to make a few chances of their own, and really should have equalised at the end of the half after Sa mistimed a punch.

However, the biggest wasted opportunity came from Cunha, who had a clear header from six yards out to simply nod home after an unbelievable piece of skill and a cross from Neto, but somehow misread the ball and thigh-ed it to Alisson.

Wolves go in 1-0 at the break, but it should really be 2-1.

Don’t go anywhere – this is a real cracker we’ve got at Molineux.

Half-time

There goes the whistle and gives us all a chance to breathe for the first time in 45 minutes.

What a half of football – more of the same please!

Chances at both ends

Best chance of the half for Liverpool.

Jota and Robertson combine out on the left and Sa rushes off his line to punch clear but gets it horribly wrong.

it comes out to Salah and Dawson throws himself in front of it before Szoboszlai has an attempt that is well stopped by Sa,

Wolves are straight down the other end, though, but Cunha squanders a three-on-two by going himself and missing the target by a mile.

Gomez struggling

Liverpool look flustered at the back after Neto somehow keeps a ball in play on the left on the slide.

Gomez has been all at sea at the back up against Neto, and the it doesn’t help that the winger is having one of the game’s of his life.

Liverpool eventually get the ball clear and build an attack through Salah and Gomez on the right.

The defender eventually swings a cross in for Gakpo, but the header is just a little too loopy and flies over.

Another chance for Wolves

Bellegarde and Neto combine for what feels like the 20th time already on the counter, with the Portugal winger flying onto it out on the left and finding the midfielder once again on the edge of the box.

It’s a poor first touch, and he goes for the shot but Szoboszlai does really well to block.

Wolves finishing this half as they started the first so it seems.

Good chance for Gakpo

Jota does well again – he’s warming into this one – and puts a ball in towards the penalty spot where Gakpo is waiting.

He’s only had about eight touches so far, and his ninth is the worst of the lot.

He goes to place it into the bottom corner, but gets it horribly wrong.

A difficult finish to attempt, to be fair.

Should be two

WOW how is it not 2-0.

Neto does absolutely brilliantly to nutmeg Gomez and trevola a cross into the middle of the box for an unmarked Cunha.

But the Brazilian jumps even though the ball is coming in at head height, and manages to miss the flight of it completely, allowing it to crash into his thigh and into Alisson’s hands.

He had nobody around him and was six yards out – just head it! Impossible to miss.

Well, clearly not.

O’Neil is fuming – he knows that 1-0 up is not a safe result against this Liverpool side

Biggest cheer of the day

Great work from Jota as he wriggles through three or four challenges before Gomes puts in a crunching tackle that yields a bigger cheer than Hwang’s goal did.

They liked that one.

Well off target from Dawson

Viciously whipped in for Dawson, but he can’t get it on target.

He absolutely stormed onto that one, and clatters into the post for his troubles.

Salah is quickly on his bike to take down a long ball, but Sa clears up the danger.

Corner to Wolves

Another three-on-two with Bellegarde and Neto yields a corner.

Bellegarde again running through the midfield with so little pressure on him.

End to end now

Corner to Liverpool now, after Jota actually does really ell out on the left after a slide rule pass in behind the defence.

He flashes a delicious ball in but Gakpo is nowhere to be seen.

Ait-Nouri clipped it behind for the corner, which Dawson clears for Neto, who is on the charge, but Szoboszlai busts several guts to get all the way back and help out inside his box.

End to end stuff now

Wasted chance

Szoboszlai clips it in towards the right hand side of the box, but the defence clear their lines with ease.

Ait-Nouri again in there making a nuisance of himself – he’s been brilliant so far today, especially quelling the threat of Salah.

Gomez gets a cross in with little conviction – Liverpool look a little short of ideas here.

A rare free kick for the Reds

It’s clever from Wolves.

They’re winning the midfield battles, so Liverpool have to go wide, where their two options are Salah, who is swarmed by three shirts every time he even looks at the ball, and Jota, who is given the classic returning player treatment from the fans.

Liverpool do have a very central free kick about 35 yards from goal to do something with now.

Midfield problems evident for Liverpool

It’s natural that rebuilding an entire midfield is going to have teething issues, and that’s very evident out there today.

The Reds are losing all the midfield battles and look very disjointed.

It will come with time playing together, but there are just so many gaps in there for Wolves to carve clean through.

Very little rhythm for the visitors in attack.

Chance again for Wolves

Every time Jota gets the ball there’s a chorus of boos.

It’s seeming to do the trick as he loses the ball and suddenly Wolves are back on the break.

Bellegarde and Neto once again combine with their progressive play, and Neto’s shot from the edge of the box curls just wide of the post.

The phrase ‘like a hot knife through butter’ springs to mind.

Few more Liverpool touches on the ball

It’s been a pretty breathless start so far here, but Liverpool are just starting to get a few more touches on the ball.

They’re yet to really trouble the hosts, but a few more touches will settle some nerves in those red shirts.

Liverpool just haven’t been able to get going this afternoon and it’s all down to the brilliance of Wolves.

Ait-Nouri and Neto in particular have been very sharp.

Salah does well to wriggle free and get a cross into the box, and Jota gets on the end of it with three players around him.

He won’t want to see a replay of that, though. Way back in Row Z.

Wolves have started so brightly.

Semedo does fantastically on the right, swinging an early ball into Neto but Gomez just gets a touch on it to force Neto’s shot over the bar.

Liverpool aren’t clearing their lines at the moment and Wolves can keep the pressure on.

Well you can’t say it is against the run of play – Wolves have been flying early on in this one.

It’s all down to the work of Pedro Neto who drives through half the Liverpool team before a brilliant change of speed takes him away from Szoboszlai.

He reaches the byline and cuts back for Hwang in the box, who finishes well from an angle.

O'Neil staying optimistic

Gary O’Neil has been talking about what it’s like taking over on the cusp of the first game of the campaign.

Remember, Julen Loptegui left the club three days before the start of the season, leaving O’Neil with little enough time to get going.

He seems optimistic about his side’s ability to test the backline today with the visitors missing ‘Trent and Virg’.

He makes a good point, though. If you’re going to take on Liverpool, it might as well be without two of their biggest stars.

Salah competing in a league of his own

But despite all the talk, Salah has shown that he’s been able to ccast it all aside and focus on his own game.

He’s now on a run of 10 consecutive goal contributions after his exploits last time out.

The last player to do that for Liverpool was… well … Salah.

His last run – between August and December 2021 – lasted 15 games – will he make it 11 today?

Klopp not worried about Salah's future

There was a lot of speculation about Salah’s future at Liverpool at the tail end of the transfer window.

But Klopp was quick to shut down any talk of a January exit to Al-Ittihad yesterday – and even pointed out there’s still four months or so to go until talk really needs to pick up once more about his talisman’s future.

So we mentioned that Wolves managed to pull off an impressive 3-0 win last time these two met at Molineux.

That was actually the end of a long and arduous run of six home losses on the trot, but it’s been an even longer wait for consecutive wins over the Reds at home.

The last time Wolves managed back-to-back victories was between February 1980 and August 1981, when they managed a trio of wins.

We’ll find out who’s lining up in just a sec for these teams, who have had more than their fair look at one another in 2023.

Four times they’ve met already, having been forced to play a replay in January and meeting twice more in the league.

Liverpool edge the head-to-head in that spell with two wins and a draw, but Wolves did pull off a 3-0 mauling of their own at Molineux… which is where this one will be played today.

The Reds have however dominated the last 11 meetings, winning nine including a a run of seven victories on the bounce.

Gravenberch to debut?

He could get his debut today – we’ll find out in less than 10 minutes – but Ryan Gravenberch has already amde a splash at Liverpool.

Since his £35m move from Bayern Munich on deadline day, the midfielder rejected the chance to represent the Dutch U21s in the international break.

Klopp mentioned in his presser yesterday that it allowed the youngster to get to grips with his new home, but the Dutch management weren’t best pleased with the call from Gravenberch…
