We turned two shipping containers into a tiny home – it's only 875sq ft but feels so much bigger | The Sun

A DOTING mum and dad have shared how they turned two large shipping containers into a tiny home.

Mackenzie and Spencer Kyle, who are parents to Beau and Cam, took to their social media account to share a peek inside their journey to being self-sufficient.

“For the last four and a half years, my husband and I have been building our very own off-grid shipping container home,” Mackenzie told viewers while standing outside.

“It is now officially done. It is made out of two high-cube, 40 foot shipping containers and it is roughly 875sq ft and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

“It’s totally off-grid and we have our own solar system that my husband Spencer built and our own rainwater catchment system. We catch all our rainwater off of the roof.”

She then gave a tour of the house, which appeared small from the outside but spacious from the inside.

The hallway from the front door was adorned with pictures showing the process of them building their home.

They put upper windows in the house to allow for natural light, making it appear “so much bigger in here”.

“It does not feel like 875sq ft to me,” she told viewers on her YouTube channel called 'Life Uncontained'.

She then went into their children’s bedroom, which she said was “quite small”. But the storage bed contained a huge amount of items in it.

“The reason why we decided on the captain’s bed is because it’s got storage included in it and how you can hide everything away,” she said.

“Because this literally has her clothes, her shoes, her toys, it’s also her toybox, where all her books are.”

They put bigger windows in her room to overlook the pond and make the space feel bigger.

Their kitchen was also quite big, with a kitchen island, a double-door fridge and storage in every nook and cranny.

The kitchen also included two barstools as well as their washing machine to be able to do their laundry.

At their dining room table, Mackenzie said her husband built a bench with storage space underneath it.

While small, the two bathrooms were decked out with full-sized items, including a shower, bath, sink, toilet and shelving units.

They have a full-sized bed in their own room as well, which also had a custom-built closet made by Spencer.

People were quick to comment on the post as one person wrote: “Ugh! I don’t even know you guys in real life but my gosh, I’m just SO SO proud of you guys!

“Your kids will grow up in a home that you guys build and they’ll get to watch these videos seeing their awesome parents working hard to provide them with the life they have.”
