Bored Brits lack inspiration with dinnertime – with 60% eating the SAME meal 4 times a week | The Sun

November 25, 2023

FEW people can claim that they are a domestic goddess in the kitchen, with many of us relying on the same recipes for the majority of our meals.

If you want to banish mid-week food boredom though, there is a surprisingly simple way you can mix up your meals.

For those feeling guilty about their lack of culinary expertise, you aren’t the only one.

A new study by McCain’s found that over half of adults struggle with midweek meals, with 60 per cent of adults admitting that they eat the same dinner four times a week.

It seems that we are doomed from the start though, with over 38 per cent of 18-24 year olds surveyed saying that they didn’t plan their meals before popping to the shops.

Shockingly, almost half of respondents (aged 35 and under) also confessed to not knowing what to cook before checking the cupboards after work.

Having a quick look online didn’t seem to inspire home cooks either, with a third of the 2,000 people surveyed watching cookery videos but never trying the recipes for themselves.

Though a lack of planning and inspiration won’t help the boring mid-week meals, it is also damaging our bank balance too.

Fed up of our repetitive meals, it is easy to indulge in a takeaway during the week which often leaves many of us feeling guilty afterwards – as confirmed by 21 per cent of those surveyed.

Unless you are Nigella Lawson though, most of us won’t want to spend our lives cooking.

In fact, 41 per cent of those surveyed admitted that they relied on their tried and tested meals simply because it was quicker.

Thankfully, there is an easy way to mix up your menus at home with McCain’s.

Known for your favourite oven chips, the brand has launched a new product: Baby Hasselbacks.

These pre-sliced potatoes should easily liven up your mid-week menu, with their crispy skins being coated in flaky sea salt and cracked black pepper.

Just pop in a preheated oven and cook for 20 mins, it really is that simple to prepare them.

If you weren’t already sold, pop icon Sophie Ellis-Bextor has teamed up with the brand in a bid to save you from food boredom.

“If you’re anything like me, midweek meals can get a bit boring and repetitive,” she told press, adding: “[but… research showed that sometimes we all find thinking of tasty and wholesome things to cook midweek challenging.”

Sharing her excitement over the product, the musician has even taken to swinging on a giant gliterball to highlight the promotion.

For thosewho not sure what to pair with their hasslebacks, don’t panic as we have a few more tip

As always preparation is key and with meal planning, you can easily pick up some sausages and peas to go with the McCain’s product.

You can also dust off your kitchen gadgets, with a slow cooker being an easy way to make BBQ chicken to go with your baby hassleback.

Finally, spend time with your loved ones– even if you are just sampling your new go-to together in the kitchen.

Seems like you are all set to get those taste buds tingling!
