Pepsi is undoubtedly one of the most popular fizzy drink brands out there.

The popular soda was first invented in 1893 as Brad's Drink by pharmacist Caleb Bradham. It was created as a way to promote digestion.

It then became known as Pepsi-Cola in 1898 before shortening to just Pepsi in 1961. As of 2023, it became the second most valuable soft drink, after Coca-Cola.

Now people are mind-blown to learn that Pepsi is not only big in helping digestion, but where its name actually came from too.

The name Pepsi comes from the word "dyspepsia", known as indigestion. Fizzy drink lovers couldn't quite believe it when the news was revealed.

One social media said: "I was today years old when I learned that." While another admitted they simply had no idea about the name.

Caleb had been operating a soda fountain in his North Carolina, US, drug store where he served drinks he created himself.

The most popular fizz he'd sell was Brad's Drink, a soda made with a mix of sugar, water, caramel, lemon oil, kola nuts, nutmeg and other additives.

He changed it to Pepsi-Cola in 1898, and by 1903, the soda syrup sold in pharmacies across North Carolina. Pepsi was specifically made to promote digestion.
