He promised to bring home gold and found a ring that was 1,100 years old<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/12\/77602507-12729603-The_construction_company_owner_uncovered_the_ring_missing_a_sect-m-97_1699533092673.jpg\" height=\"656\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The construction company owner uncovered the ring missing a section of its hoop in a clump of clay<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/11\/77602503-12729603-image-a-350_1699531009800.jpg\" height=\"476\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It is believed the ring would have belonged to a very wealthy woman in Anglo-Saxon times<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/11\/77602511-12729603-image-a-348_1699530983346.jpg\" height=\"655\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>It is an elaborately designed gold and enamel ring with a raised circular bezel divided by six domed cloisonne cells forming a cross of green glass\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pawel said: &#8216;Before I left home I told my daughter, who was nine years old, I&#8217;m going to bring you home some gold today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It was Father&#8217;s Day so I only planned on detecting for a couple of hours then I would take her to the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I got a signal and dug down four inches and saw a yellow colour in the clump of clay.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I thought it was just a cheap plastic funfair item, but then looking closely it looked like it could be gold.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I took it to the dig organiser and they said straight away it was Anglo-Saxon.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/11\/77602509-12729603-image-a-349_1699530999689.jpg\" height=\"513\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The ring has been disclaimed as treasure, so the proceeds of its sale will be split between Mr Pawel and the landowner<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pawel posted a picture of the ring on Facebook and was inundated with 400 messages from detectorists congratulating him on it.<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8216;When I showed Maya the ring she was very excited and that&#8217;s when it sunk in for me too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It is a special, unexpected find and if it sells I want to take my family on holiday.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The construction company owner uncovered the ring, missing a section of its hoop, in a clump of clay.<\/p>\n<p>It is an elaborately designed gold and enamel ring that has a raised circular bezel divided by six domed cloisonne cells forming a cross of green glass.<\/p>\n<p>The angles of the cross are spaced by four triangular cells of blue glass within a thin blue glass border.<\/p>\n<p>It is believed the ring would have belonged to a very wealthy woman in Anglo-Saxon times.<\/p>\n<p>At the time Queen Edith, widow of Edward the Confessor and regarded as the richest woman in England, lived in the village where it was found.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/12\/77602497-12729603-The_ring_which_is_less_than_an_inch_wide_and_weighs_3_7_grams_wa-m-98_1699533120488.jpg\" height=\"848\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The ring, which is less than an inch wide and weighs 3.7 grams, was found on Father&#8217;s Day in June 2021<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/11\/09\/11\/77602499-12729603-image-a-352_1699531041566.jpg\" height=\"660\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Peter Pawel with wife Kate and daughter Maya.
