but it is best to check before doing so as you might not be better off.<\/p>\n<p>You should consider carefully what moving over means for your money, as you can&#x27;t move back once you&#x27;re on Universal Credit.<\/p>\n<p>Using an online benefits calculator can help you compare and are free and easy to use from charities such as\u00a0Turn2Us\u00a0and\u00a0EntitledTo, and it&#x27;s also worth asking them for advice.<\/p>\n<h2>What is Universal Credit?<\/h2>\n<p>Universal Credit is a welfare scheme that was designed to combine a number of old &quot;legacy benefits&quot; into a single monthly payment.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you are eligible will depend on your individual circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>You may be eligible if you meet all of the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You\u2019re on a low income or out of work<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re 18 or over (there are some exceptions if you\u2019re 16 to 17)<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019re under State Pension age (or your partner is)<\/li>\n<li>You and your partner have \u00a316,000 or less in savings between you<\/li>\n<li>You live in the UK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How much is Universal Credit?<\/h2>\n<p>Universal Credit payments are made up of a standard allowance and then various additional payments that depend on your circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>This is how much you will get as your standard allowance each month:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Single, under 25<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; \u00a3292.11<\/li>\n<li><strong>Single, 25 or over<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; \u00a3368.74<\/li>\n<li><strong>Couple, joint claimants both under 25<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0&#8211; \u00a0\u00a3458.51 (for both)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Couple, joint claimants, one or both 25 or over<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;
