Suella Braverman today attacked ‘absurd’ international refugee rules as the Home Secretary used a trip to America to demand global reforms.<\/span><\/p>\n
The senior Tory used a speech in Washington DC to call for an overhaul of the UN Refugee Convention and took a swipe at the European Convention on Human Rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

He says the asylum and immigration system is ‘broken beyond repair’ and agrees the 70-year-old UN Refugee Convention is ‘not fit for purpose’.<\/span><\/p>\n
‘As she said, it’s no longer good enough to say “I’m gay, therefore I must be entitled to asylum in Great Britain”,’ he says.<\/span><\/p>\n
‘What? Every single gay man and woman in Africa and Europe can come here because they’re gay?<\/span><\/p>\n
‘I’m gay, I can say it, it is ridiculous. We do not need extra protection because we’re gay. <\/span>Perhaps in Iran, where they tend to throw people like me off roofs.’<\/span><\/p>\n
