WILKO is to shut the doors of its last remaining stores on Sunday October 8 as the collapse of the historic retailer comes to a close.<\/p>\n
The hardware and furnishings retailer tumbled into administration last month after it came under pressure from weak consumer spending and debts to suppliers.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The retailer will shut its final 111 stores in early October as part of the final phase of closures, administrators for PwC said.<\/p>\n
But B&M and\u00a0Poundland have purchased a handful of stores\u00a0which could reopen in the future.<\/p>\n
The Range last week\u00a0snapped up the Wilko brand, including the name and website, in a \u00a35million deal with\u00a0administrators.<\/p>\n
Now, a message on the Wilko website is promising customers that\u00a0home\u00a0delivery is "returning soon".<\/p>\n

Wilko was originally founded by James Kemsey Wilkinson in Leicester in 1930 and employed 12,500 workers before its collapse.<\/p>\n

<\/picture>CAFFEINE KICK <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>FESTIVE FUN <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>SILVER LINING <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/picture>WASHED UP <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n The following stores will shut on Sunday, October 8:<\/p>\n The\u00a0collapsed retailer\u00a0is already in the process of closing the doors on\u00a0a total of 86 shops\u00a0this week, with all remaining sites to close by early October.<\/p>\n Within the past two weeks\u00a0the chain has shut 90 locations\u00a0across the country.<\/p>\n On September 12,\u00a024 Wilko stores closed for good\u00a0and on Thursday September 14,\u00a0another 28 stores\u00a0shut up shop.<\/p>\n Both of Wilko\u2019s warehouses, called distribution centres, also closed on September 15.<\/p>\n A\u00a0further 38 stores pulled down the shutters\u00a0one last time on September 17.<\/p>\n Another\u00a0round of 38 shops closed\u00a0Tuesday, followed by 48 more branches shutting their doors on yesterday.<\/p>\n The firm will then\u00a0close\u00a037 stores after trading on Sunday, September 24.<\/p>\n Another 37 shops will then close for good on Tuesday, September 26.<\/p>\n And 37 more stores will shut forever on Thursday, September 28.<\/p>\n The boss of a popular homeware giant hinted yesterday that it could take over Wilko stores as part of plans to open up to 20 new shops.<\/p>\n Dunelm\u00a0has said it expects to acquire several former\u00a0Wilko\u00a0locations.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Meanwhile,\u00a0Wilko staff have issued an urgent plea\u00a0to shoppers before it shuts its doors for good.<\/p>\n Plus, another major\u00a0supermarket has revealed it could take over Wilko sites\u00a0as part of a huge expansion.<\/p>\nI tried supermarket coffees – one was better than Nescafe at third of price<\/h3>\n
