DURING his incredible life, Freddie Mercury was adored by fans around the world.

But one person who was by his side in the last years of the Queen singer's life, was his partner Jim Hutton.

Jim Hutton worked as a hairdresser when he first met Freddie Mercury outside London gay club Heaven in 1985.

The singer offered to buy Hutton a drink to which he refused as he was already dating someone else.

Fast forward 18 months later, they crossed paths again in another nightclub and hit it right off.

The two ended up living with each other for several years after they began dating in the 1980s.

</picture>LEGEND REMEMBERED

</picture>LOVE OF HIS LIFE

They were never married – as gay marriage was illegal a the time – but both wore a wedding ring to show their commitment towards each other.

The Queen singer's sexuality was often a hot topic of discussion, as he never admitted publicly that he was gay.

This was because he had both female and male partners, with friends commenting he was openly gay, but he remained silent on the matter.

At the time of Freddie's Aids diagnosis in 1987, he reportedly told Hutton that he would understand if he no longer wanted to be with him.

</picture>BEEB DID NOTHING

</picture>baring all

</picture>BITTER SPLIT

</picture>LETHAL DOSE

According to The Daily Beat, he replied saying: "Don't be stupid, I'm not going anywhere. I'm here for the long haul."

Hutton ended up taking care of Freddie up until his death in 1991.

Just a day before the singer passed away, a statement was made on Mercury's behalf which confirmed he was ill.

The statement read: "Following enormous conjecture in the press, I wish to confirm that I have been tested HIV positive and have Aids.

"I felt it correct to keep this information private in order to protect the privacy of those around me.

"However, the time has now come for my friends and fans around the world to know the truth, and I hope everyone will join with me, my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease."

Freddie's cause of death was recorded as bronchial pneumonia resulting from Aids.

Three years after Freddie's death, Hutton released a book about his time with the singer titled Mercury and Me.

After moving into the singer's Kensington mansion, he worked as the gardener and decided to stay away from the rock and roll lifestyle.

Mercury left £500,000 in his will to Hutton but gave his Garden Lodge at his Kensington home to his friend and ex-girlfriend Mary Austin.

Freddie and Austin were previously engaged, but called off the wedding after he admitted to being bisexual.

In fact, she was the one who encouraged him to come out as gay.

The pair dated for six years until 1976 and she remained his closest friend for the following 15 years until his death in 1991.

After Mercury died, Austin reportedly kicked Hutton out of the Garden Lodge, despite his claim that the singer wanted him to stay there.

Meanwhile, Freddie left Mary half of his £75million estate, and she continues to live at the Kensington home.

After leaving London, Hutton went back home to Ireland, where he used the money left to him to build a home of his own.

He sadly passed away in 2010 at the age of 60 on New Year's Day.

While he, like Freddie, suffered from HIV, his death was caused by lung cancer.

After Mercury passed away, Hutton never went on to marry.

In 2018 movie Bohemian Rhapsody, Hutton was played by actor Aaron McCusker.

A look at the incredible life of Freddie Mercury and his sad passing
