{"id":141629,"date":"2023-09-12T18:46:44","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T18:46:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theprojectsworld.com\/?p=141629"},"modified":"2023-09-12T18:46:44","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T18:46:44","slug":"inside-worlds-first-international-stadium-home-to-england-drubbing-thats-now-bowls-club-where-train-tracks-run-through-the-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theprojectsworld.com\/sport\/inside-worlds-first-international-stadium-home-to-england-drubbing-thats-now-bowls-club-where-train-tracks-run-through-the-sun\/","title":{"rendered":"Inside world&#x27;s first international stadium home to England drubbing that&#x27;s now bowls club where train tracks run through | The Sun"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE first purpose-built football stadium is now a bowls club with train tracks running through it.<\/p>\n<p>The stadium in the south of Glasgow was the original Hampden Park and is thought to have been the template for some of the world&#x27;s most iconic football grounds.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/2021-hampden-bowling-club-site-657243867.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/2021-hampden-bowling-club-site-657243649.jpg\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/2021-hampden-bowling-club-site-657243679.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>However, it was at risk of being demolished forever in 2021 with the registered charity Hampden Bowling Club needing \u00a3150,000 to restore the pavilion.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the pavilion&#x27;s roof was filled with asbestos and was covered in tarpaulin which also protected the Victorian tiles.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, Queen&#x27;s Park stepped in with a late rescue plan to save the club&#x27;s original home, which was opened in 1873.<\/p>\n<p>The stadium was also the venue for the Scottish Professors&#x27;
