Another said the victim was &#8216;a mess&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/09\/07\/20\/75183933-12493345-image-m-16_1694113641840.jpg\" height=\"361\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Neighbours said they heard &#8216;bangs&#8217; and &#8216;screaming&#8217; coming from inside the ground floor home in Swan Court, Lockwood (pictured), yesterday morning after a dog attack\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is believed that the man had been drinking with friends shortly before his pet attacked him.<\/p>\n<p>It was initially unclear whether the man&#8217;s injuries were caused by his dog, but today the force confirmed this to be true following information given by the hospital.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A cordon was put up outside Swan Court and police vehicles lined the street as enquiries began. A bottom floor flat was also boarded up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Three men were initially arrested on suspicion of assault and the dog was located and seized by police. They have since been released.<\/p>\n<p>One resident of the block of flats said: &#8216;I heard the guy who lives in that bottom flat has been mauled by his own dog. An XL bully type. Police have seized the dog. The guy doesn&#8217;t look good.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Another neighbour said: &#8216;It was his own dog that attacked him in the early hours of the morning. I can&#8217;t understand how a dog can get the better of you unless it somehow got him on the floor.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Naeem Mirza, 67, lives on second floor of the flat said: &#8216;I woke up around 2 or 3am in the morning and could hear a lot of shouting and banging. I woke up this morning to all this police presence. It&#8217;s not uncommon in this area this kind of trouble.&#8217;<\/p>\n<h3>READ MORE:\u00a0Schoolboy, 10, man and woman suffer &#8216;serious&#8217; injuries after being mauled by &#8216;Pitbull type&#8217; dog<\/h3>\n<p>In an initial statement following the incident, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police described the incident as an &#8216;assault&#8217;, stating:\u00a0&#8216;Police were called by the ambulance service to Swan Court, Huddersfield at 2.55am today after a man in his 50s had been located there with serious head injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Officers attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital. He is being treated there for injuries to his head and body which are serious but not believed to be life threatening.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Three men have been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing to determine the nature of what has taken place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;A dog was located and recovered by police at the scene, and enquiries remain ongoing regarding what took place.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>In an update on Thursday, September 7, a spokesperson for WYP said: &#8216;Three men have been released under investigation as enquiries continue into the incident.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The victim continues to be treated in hospital for non life threatening injuries.
