Woman, 43, killed as kids, 5 and 12, rushed to hospital after two cars crash head-on in devastating smash

A WOMAN was killed in a car crash as two kids, aged 5 and 12, were rushed to hospital following the fatal head-on collision.

Two cars smashed into each other in Barnsley, South Yorks, on Monday, and the driver of one of the cars was sadly killed.

The two children were passengers in the second car, police said.

They were rushed to hospital alongside a woman, 29, who was driving – and all three are in serious but stable conditions.

Police confirmed that the Peugeot and Ford Fiesta collided in a head-on crash on Doncaster Road.

The woman, 43, driving the Peugeot was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family have been informed, police said.

Cops are now looking for witnesses to come forward.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: "Roads policing officers are appealing for witnesses, dash cam footage and information following a fatal road traffic collision in Barnsley.

"On Monday 4 April, officers attended reports of a road traffic collision at 3.37pm on Doncaster Road.

"A blue Peugeot 108 was travelling along the road when it was involved in a head-on collision with a green Ford Fiesta.

"The driver of the Peugeot, a 43 year-old woman, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been informed and are being supported by officers.

"The occupants of the second vehicle, a 29 year-old woman and two children aged 5 and 12, are currently in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or may have dash cam footage of the collision or the vehicles prior to the collision happening.

"If you have any information which could assist our officers, please call 101 quoting incident number 493 of 4 April 2022. Any footage can be emailed to [email protected] with the incident number in the subject line."
