JOE Biden sent well wishes to Donald and Melania Trump hours after the president and first lady tested positive for coronavirus on Friday.

The Democratic nominee wished Trump and his wife a "speedy recovery"and said they'll be in his and his wife Dr Jill Biden's thoughts.

Does Donald Trump have Covid?

President Trump announced in the early hours of Friday morning that he and his wife Melania tested positive for COVID-19.

"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19,' Trump said before adding that he and his wife would quarantine themselves "immediately."

"We will get through this TOGETHER!' he added.

The announcement came two hours after Trump's senior counselor Hope Hicks also tested positive for the virus.

The president described the news of her diagnosis as "terrible" and praised her for "working so hard without even taking a small break."

Biden sent his well-wishes to Trump on Twitter hours after the president revealed his positive diagnosis on Friday.

“Jill and I send our thoughts to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a swift recovery,” he said.

"We will continue to pray for the health and safety of the president and his family."

Biden reached out to Trump two days after the president made fun of him for wearing a mask during the first election debate in Ohio.

“I don’t wear masks like him," Trump said during the debate. "Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet from me, and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.”

The former vice president doesn't appear to have been infected with coronavirus.

But he and his wife were reportedly tested for COVID-19 on Friday following the president's health scare revelation.

A senior Biden campaign official who was with the Democratic nominee at Tuesday's debate told CNN there wasn't any contact between the Trump campaign or White House to alert the Biden camp of positive exposure.

The aide said Biden's campaign believes the risk is low because "we were never near them."

If elected in November, he'd be the oldest person to take office- beating Donald Trump's record as the eldest president.
