US tourist, 26, who BEHEADED Tinder date, 27, before chopping her up and dumping body parts around Japan is jailed for just EIGHT YEARSJanuary 26, 2019
Yevgeniy Vasilievich Bayraktar, 26, is suspected of chopping off Saki Kondo's head and stuffing it in a bag.
He admitted killing the 27-year-old, dismembering her and scattering her body parts around several cities in Japan last year.
Kondo was last seen alive in security footage, which shows her entering Bayraktar's vacation rental property in Osaka on February 15.
BODY PARTS DUMPED
Bayraktar was spotted exiting the rental with several bags.
He was arrested on February 22 in a different rental after Kondo was reported missing.
Cops discovered her head in a bag in a short-term lodging room in Osaka.
Bayraktar then led police to Kondo's severed torso and other body parts, which he had dumped 25 miles away in woods in Shimamoto.
According to his indictment, Bayraktar was said to have strangled Kondo to death.
He was tried for manslaughter and destruction and abandoning a corpse, instead of murder, because it was unclear whether he had purposely set out to kill her, reports Japan Today.
I will be burdened with this crime until the day I die. I am so sorry
Prosecutors had pushed for a 13-year prison sentence, claiming Bayraktar, from Long Island, had tried to conceal evidence, including deleting the dating app.
But his defence said a five-year sentence would suffice – because he had "shown remorse" for his crime and led investigators to Kondo's body parts.
Bayrakter reportedly said during his trial: "I will be burdened with this crime until the day I die. I am so sorry."
Bayraktar was then caged for eight years.
According to Japan Today, Kondo’s father said: "The sentence is too light and the truth remains unknown."
The news site also cites Japanese officials who say Bayraktar had met several Japanese women online and taken them to various vacation rentals around Japan before he met Kondo.
