UK weather forecast – Storm Dennis to batter Britain with blizzards, 72 hours of rain and 70mph winds – The SunFebruary 13, 2020
STORM Dennis will batter flood-ravaged Britain a week after country-wide Storm Ciara swept through the nation.
Weather forecasters have warned Brits to brace for blizzards and 70mph winds ahead of Storm Dennis this weekend.
Days after 97mph winds whipped across the UK, Brits have been warned of more treacherous conditions arriving.
A host of yellow weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office from Thursday until Monday, with weather forecasters saying this could bring transport disruption and flooding to some homes and businesses.
Another warning of snow has been issued for the north west of England from 2am to 11am on Thursday, which the Met Office said could again affect travel and cut off rural communities.
There is also a risk of blizzards over the high grounds of southern Scotland on Thursday morning which will push eastwards and clear away into the afternoon.
Elsewhere, it will be windy with heavy showers across many parts of England and Wales, with some hail and thunder mixed in.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said Storm Dennis, the fourth named storm of the 2019-20 season, would bring severe gales and heavy rain that will push east across the country.
Saturday is expected to be "the most hazardous day", he said.
"Whilst it's going to be very windy, they do look like they will be a touch down to what we saw with Storm Ciara."
Wind speeds reached 97mph under Storm Ciara and Mr Burkill said gusts from Storm Dennis will hit 60 to 70mph in exposed spots.
Strong winds and heavy rain will still be present on Sunday, with the whole of the UK covered by yellow weather alerts.

The weekend's weather runs the risk of bringing further flooding to parts of the country, with the Environment Agency urging people "to stay safe and remain vigilant".
It has also warned people against taking "dangerous" so-called storm selfies.
Around 730 properties are believed to have been affected by flooding in recent days, the Environment Agency added as it warned of more wet weather ahead when Dennis takes hold.
Caroline Douglass, flood duty manager at the agency, said: "River and surface water flooding is possible on Saturday into Sunday due to Storm Dennis and we are advising people to check their flood risk and to stay safe on the coast or when walking or driving near swollen rivers."
It comes after two people were killed and more than 500 homes were wrecked by 97mph Storm Ciara over the last two days.
On Monday Storm Ciara unleashed a month-and-a-half's worth of rainfall in just one day, and this morning commuters are set to battle through wintry conditions.
Insurers reckon the final bill from “Storm of the Century” Ciara could top £1billion as forecasters warned beleaguered Brits to brace themselves for blizzards and a possible 6ins of snow in the next 24 hours.
