UK weather forecast – Britain to be hotter than Tahiti in 'record-breaking 31C' August Bank Holiday scorcherAugust 20, 2019
BRITS are set for a toasty August Bank Holiday – as the current record of 31.5C could be smashed when temperatures rise once more.
The country will be hotter than 28C Tahiti this weekend as the mercury soars, and could see another heatwave sweep in.
A sunny long weekend will be welcomed by Brits bored with the cooler and damper weather we have seen for the past few weeks.
The Met Office forecast showers dying out from tomorrow, with 26C by Friday and nudging 30C by Monday, with 31C predicted by The Weather Outlook.
The hottest August Bank Holiday Monday since the holiday day began in 1965 is 28.2C, on August 28, 2017, at Holbeach, Lincs.
The hottest overall August Bank Holiday weekend temperature on record is 31.5C, on August 25, 2001, at Heathrow, Met Office records show.
This blast of hotter air follows June and July roasts which saw 34C on June 29, at Northolt, north London, and the 38.7C hottest day since records began 178 years ago in 1841, on July 25, in Cambridge.
Met Office forecaster Grahame Madge said: “The August Bank Holiday record is 28.2C and that will easily be challenged. Above the high 20s is quite possible in the odd spot. The high 20s are forecast reasonably widely.
“There is also a low chance of beating the overall August Bank Holiday weekend record of 31.5C.

“The fine Bank Holiday weekend will provide a good opportunity for people to be outside after a very wet August.
“It will turn progressively warmer through the week, with 26C by Friday and temperatures climbing as a ridge of high pressure from the Azores influences all parts of the UK.”
Temperatures are forecast to build until Sunday, meteorologist Emma Smith said.
Showers will continue in northern areas of the UK until Friday, with isolated outbreaks of rain also expected in some southern areas before high pressure moves in, bringing warmer and drier weather.
Central and southern England are expected to see the warmest weather of the bank holiday, while temperatures across northern areas of the UK will be lower, with conditions likely to be more changeable.
