A schoolgirl who was brutally assaulted by a gang of bullies who ambushed her as she walked to a sleepover was forced to relive the trauma all over again when the attack was shared on Snapchat. 

Happy-go-lucky Libby Brierley, 14, was walking to a friends in her dressing gown when she was pounced on by four girls who grabbed her from behind and savagely rained punches down on her face.

Shocking video of the assault shows one girl yank the unsuspecting girl’s ponytail and haul her to the ground before repeatedly smashing her in the face.

The frightened schoolgirl can be heard squealing for help as the bully continues to punch her head and body.

Miss Brierley suffered concussion and serious bruises and spent the night at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham after the attack.

She was assaulted while she walked to a friend’s house for a sleepover in Bilborough, Nottingham, on September 2 last year.

Her bullies filmed the attack and shared it on Snapchat and Facebook, forcing her to relive the attack as it was shared rapidly among pupils at Nottingham University Academy.

Her horrified mother Kerry, 39, said: ‘Three of the bullies went to her school but the teachers have done nothing to protect her.

‘When I spoke to the teachers, they said they couldn’t guarantee she would be safe.

‘I haven’t even had a phone call from the head teacher. The video of the attack is still being circulated on social media.

‘Libby used to be happy-go-lucky but since the attack she’s gone into herself. She has nightmares and has had enough of life.

‘Libby has started a new school but on her first day one of her bullies posted the video on social media again.

‘I went to the police but they said it can’t be classed as cyber bullying because Libby wasn’t tagged in the video.


A 15-year-old girl admitted assault at Nottingham Magistrates Court on November 7 and was handed a referral order and ordered to pay Libby £200 compensation

‘The bullies have found a loop hole in the law to continue taunting Libby. Every time she sees the video appear it’s like she’s gone through it all over again.

‘We just want the law changed to stop this happening to other people.’

Mrs Brierley has now taken her daughter out of Nottingham University Academy (NUSA) to prevent her daughter coming face to face with the bullies.
