Scott Thompson: Is Justin Trudeau apologizing for the right reason?

February 21, 2019

In another attempt to sidestep the allegations that his closest advisor and good friend, Gerald Butts, tried to influence former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould in the SNC Lavalin case, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is apologizing to her for something that really has nothing to do with anything.

Global News

Trudeau said Wednesday: “I want to highlight something I said at caucus this morning. I apologized to Jody Wilson-Raybould because I wasn’t quick enough to condemn in unequivocal terms the comments and commentary and cartoons made about her last week. They were absolutely unacceptable and I should have done it sooner”

After not explaining why he fired her as attorney general, demoting her to Veterans Affairs, and after not explaining why she resigned from cabinet — and after not explaining why Gerald Butts, who is said to have tried to influence her in the SNC Lavalin case, suddenly resigned as chief advisor — the prime minister is apologizing to Wilson-Raybould for not coming out against those who criticized her during this ordeal.

Really? How shallow is that, considering she has massive support for standing up to Trudeau, Butts, and SNC Lavalin and everything they represent?

The only people who are criticizing her are diehard Liberal supporters who are angry at her for exposing the potential corruption and who are willing to let it go for votes.

What is the prime minister apologizing for?

For not supporting Wilson-Raybould, his former AG? He hasn’t supported her since he shuffled her out of the job she loved weeks ago.

That’s how we got here.

It’s simple. We need to know why she was removed as attorney general, why she resigned from cabinet, and what Butts’ involvement was.

Perhaps the self-described feminist feels that as long as you apologize for something, women will forgive you and just go shopping.
