-40 wind chills return to finish February after a brief bout of milder air and snow.
So far it has been the second coldest February ever recorded in Saskatoon, but conditions were slightly less brisk Wednesday morning as temperatures only dipped back to -24 to start the day.
-29 is what it felt like with wind chill as clouds rolled back in during the morning.
Temperatures have trended a whopping 13 to 14 degrees colder than average this month, making it one of the coldest February’s on record.
Snow slides in during the afternoon as a weak low-pressure system passes by and the region warms up into the mid-minus teens for a daytime high.
Light snow lingers through the evening as conditions gradually cool back toward the -20s overnight.
-28 is around what it’ll feel like with wind chill as you’re heading out the door Thursday morning under mostly cloudy skies.
An arctic high-pressure system building in will clear skies out during the day, bringing back some sunshine as temperatures climb up to around -15 degrees for an afternoon high.
Another arctic high-pressure system building in on Thursday starts to clear skies across the region.
A frigid final Friday of February is on tap as the arctic high lingers over the area and keep skies clear, allowing the mercury to dive down to around -25 with wind chills dipping into the mid -30s.
Warmer air will slide back in during the day under mostly sunny skies with an afternoon high around -13 degrees.
Another surge of -30 wind chills is slated to slide back in for the final Friday of February.
The next system and coupled cold front will sweep in on Saturday, bringing in some snow and then dropping daytime highs from the minus teens for the first half of the weekend, back into the -20s on Sunday.
Skies will also clear out, marking a return to some sunshine to finish the final weekend of February as one more blast of arctic air dives in with -30 degree overnight lows and extreme -40 wind chills to finish the month.
