Pregnant woman fined £50 by taxi driver for making a ‘mess’ when her waters broke in his cab – The SunJuly 19, 2019
A MUM-to-be whose waters broke in a taxi on the way to hospital was fined £50 by the driver — for the “mess”.
Dana Harrison, 23, had gone into labour 11 days early.
She started giving birth in the cab and said she “had the baby’s head in my hands” as she arrived at St James’s Hospital, Leeds.
As she was taken off a wheelchair she said the driver shouted about cleaning and demanded £50.
She only had £30 plus the £6 fare so handed that over — and moments later gave birth to son Blake.
But she and partner Aiden Ibbotson are furious about the driver from Roadrunners cabs.
I started giving birth in the taxi and the driver started shouting at me about making a mess
Dana, of Leeds, said: “He was such a horrible man, I hope no one else has to go through what I have.
"I started giving birth in the taxi and the driver started shouting at me about making a mess.
"I was so stressed because I really wasn't expecting to give birth so soon.
"When we got to the hospital he was asking for £50 but all I had was £30 so I just gave him that, he wasn't happy.
"There wasn't even that much mess, it was just a bit of water, most of it was in my trousers.”
Aiden, 23, said: "I have tried to call the company but they have said I can only accept their apologies and they won't tell me who the driver was.
"I asked for his badge number which would've been in his car but they would not give it to me. I am so angry."
Dana said the driver didn’t take the quickest route to the hospital and his driving was "slow", despite her pleas for him to speed up.
Taxi firm Roadrunners have been approached for comment.
