Thames Valley Police insisted it was ‘very much still a missing persons case’ despite Leah, an avid social media user, not being online since the day she vanished. Her bank cards have not been used either.

Friends revealed that Leah was an expert in martial arts and had competed at national and international levels. Hannah Niles, 20, said: ‘If something terrible did happen to her, she would have tried her best to fight off an attacker.’

Leah, a former media studies student at Milton Keynes College, had recently started work in an administration role for a financial firm in the town.

Police said officers had knocked on at least 4,000 doors in the hunt for clues, and the force helicopter, tracker dogs and members of its marine unit were all involved in the search.

Leah was last seen wearing a black coat, skinny jeans and Converse high-top shoes, and was carrying a small black rucksack.
