Though we’ve started to address the skin concerns of highly melanated people in recent years, there’s still more work to be done. Topicals Skincare, a WOC-owned beauty brand that launched at Nordstrom, is taking the leap into addressing skin conditions for all skin tones.

I’ll be the first to tell you I wasn’t surprised to see there were over 500 people viewing the Topicals Skincare Like Butter Eczema Hydrating Mask and more than 800 people viewing the Faded Brightening & Clearing Gel. These are the only two products to launch in the Topicals skincare line. However, they’re both targeted solutions by two 23-year-old women of color.

According to a press release from the brand, founders Olamide Olowe and Claudia Teng designed the skincare brand out of a lack of skincare available to those with common skin conditions. One in four Americans have a skin condition or disease and dermatologist visits aren’t cheap. Now, the young CEOs are setting out to address common skin conditions like eczema, hyperpigmentation, psoriasis and more with these first two products.

The formula hydrates and soothes eczema-prone skin. With anti-inflammatory ingredients, you can expect additions like Camellia Sinensis leaf, turmeric and ginseng root. Plus, there’s also colloidal oatmeal, which helps to soothe any skin irritation.

The Faded Brightening Gel has some super popular ingredients. The formula is also made to help combat hyperpigmentation and dark spots from scarring and sun damage. You can expect tranexamic acid, which helps prevent the overproduction of melanin in the skin. Plus, there’s also licorice root in the gel, which is rich in antioxidants, and niacinamide which helps tackle free radicals.

“Having lived with a serious skin condition myself, I found there were limited treatment options available, and none of the brands looked like me,” Olowe, Topicals CEO and co-founder said in the press release. “I could use an over-the-counter product that didn’t address my specific needs as a Black woman with darker skin, or spend thousands on pricey prescriptions.”

The line is under $40 and the products are already selling out fast. But with ingredients like these, the Gen Z brand can help address several skin conditions for all skin tones.
