THE body of a man has been pulled from a canal in front of horrified sunbathers.

Cops rushed to the scene in Hackney, East London, this morning after a member of the public reported a body in the water.

Detectives confirmed that they recovered the man from the canal by Lea Bridge Road at 12.45pm.

Footage from the scene shows officers in a police boat bringing the body back to shore.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, told The Sun Online: "It looked like they were trying to pull something off him.

"I only saw his lower body but it looked like he could have been in his 30s or 40s."

"Officers, including the police marine unit, responded and carried out a search of the water.
