Manhunt for violent prisoner, 41, who fled jail while on day release and serving a sentence for battering a pensioner in his own home

A manhunt is underway for a violent prisoner who fled jail while out on day release in Buckinghamshire.
Shane Douglas failed to return to an open jail where he was serving a sentence for carrying out an aggravated burglary.
The 41-year-old was believed to have been out on day release as part of his rehabilitation when he went on the run from Springhill Prison.
The 6ft 5in prisoner was serving 10 years for battering a pensioner in his own home in 2016.
Police appealed for the public’s help in trying to find him but warned that he should not be approached. Anyone seeing him was asked to dial 999 immediately.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: ‘Shane Douglas, aged 41 years, absconded from HMP Springhill yesterday between 9am and 9pm.
‘He is black, about 6ft 5ins tall with a stocky build and clean shaven. He has short, cropped hair or a shaved head and is known to frequent the Hammersmith and Brixton areas of London.
‘He has been convicted of an aggravated burglary offence.’
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Justin Harris, based at Aylesbury police station, said: ‘I am appealing for information which will help us find Shane Douglas.
‘If you see him, please do not approach him, instead call us on 999.. Anyone with any other details should call us on the non-emergency number 101.’
In 2016 Douglas broke into an elderly couple’s home in the Fulham area of London.
A 63-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man lived at the property.
He demanded cash and jewellery from the pair and when the man refused he was thrown to the ground by Douglas
