Kate and William are the most popular royals: Poll shows third say Princess of Wales is their favourite member of the Firm followed by her husband – ahead of Prince Harry, Meghan and King Charles

  • Kate is the most popular member of the Royal family, according to an Ipsos poll
  • Heir to the throne Prince William is second most popular at 38%, survey suggests

A new poll has revealed the Princess of Wales has overtaken Prince William as the most popular member of the royal family since the death of the Queen.

Kate is the preferred member of the royal family, followed by her husband, the King’s grandchildren and the Princess Royal, according to an Ipsos poll.

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, ranked as one of the least popular family members on 10 per cent.

Camilla, the Queen Consort, also only attracted 10 per cent of mentions by those surveyed – also seeing her among least popular.

King Charles, who is set to be coronated on May 6, found himself in the middle of the pack with 20 per cent.

The Princess of Wales was the most liked at 38 per cent, followed by heir to the throne William, at 34 per cent.

It comes amid a number of public outings by the former Duchess of Cambridge, including a recent visit to Wales.

The public were also asked to select, from a list, which two or three members of the royal family they liked the most.

Around 18 per cent said they had no favourite when it comes to the royal family, the Telegraph reported.

Among the least popular was Prince Andrew (four per cent) and his children Princess Beatrice and Eugenie (both seven per cent).

Prince Harry, whose explosive memoir Spare made revelations about ‘the Firm’, ranked sixth popular with 14 per cent.

The survey of 4,000 people also suggested that 49 per cent of the British public think Charles is doing a good job as monarch.

A further 32 per cent said he was doing neither a good nor bad job, while nine per cent said he was doing a bad job.

A separate Ipsos poll suggested 57 per cent were ‘satisfied’ with the way the King was performing, a decrease of eight percentage points since May 2022.

His son, Prince William, enjoyed a higher vote in public confidence, with 62 per cent responding as satisfied with his role as the Prince of Wales.

He was in Wales this week, where he was asked if he has spoken to his brother Prince Harry during a visit to a rugby club.

Prince William has no plans to reunite with his younger brother when the Duke of Sussex visits the UK for the King’s coronation, reports say. The pair are pictured together in July 2021

The Prince of Wales, 40, was walking alongside Kate carrying pizza boxes outside Dowlais Rugby Club in Merthyr Tydfil when a reporter quizzed him about Prince Harry.

Having spent the day with the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, the Prince and Princess of Wales were drying off and socialising with climbers as they carried food inside from the nearby Little Dragon pizza van.

But as they approached the clubhouse, a reporter could be heard asking: ‘William, have you spoken to your brother?’ Why did you settle, William?’

A smiling William continued to walk indoors with his wife and did not acknowledge the question.
