Jeremy Corbyn's ex-wife reveals why she walked out of 'joyless' marriage in which she was 'wined and dined' with beans and spent more time with pet puss HaroldFebruary 10, 2019
Jane Chapman said she walked out on the Labour leader because he was more interested in campaigning than her emotional needs.
Jane, 69, lifts the lid on her life with the left-winger in a devastating biography — A Dangerous Hero: Corbyn’s Ruthless Plot for Power.
Author Tom Bower writes: “He would sit on the floor in his greasy, unwashed army surplus store jacket, oblivious to his wife’s irritation.
“They rarely went out together. Jane spent lonely evenings in their small flat with Mango the dog and Harold Wilson the cat as her only companions while Corbyn met political cronies.”
He says Jane disliked holidays with him and rode pillion on his bumpy motorbike in eastern Europe.
They shunned comfy beds and restaurants in favour of “a small tent and cooking tins of beans on a single ring Calor gas stove”.
Jane said: “Jeremy never thought there was anything wrong. He didn’t acknowledge my emotional side. He doesn’t recognise a woman’s feelings.
“He thought I left him on a feminist kick. But it was because I wanted some fun.”
Nearly 20 years later he invited her to tea and told her to “lighten up”.
The pair married in 1974 and split after five years, shortly before Mr Corbyn’s affair with Diane Abbott, now his Shadow Home Secretary.
