I'm desperate to be a journalist but I'm convinced I don't have what it takes | The SunDecember 1, 2022
DEAR DEIDRE: I WANT so badly to be a journalist, but I’m convinced I’ll never have what it takes.
I’m a 24-year-old man, and for as long as I can remember my passion has always been for writing.
It’s really the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do. Yet no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to find any work.
Every job application I make is always followed by a rejection. I’m constantly told that I just don’t cut it.
After countless setbacks, I’ve lost all confidence in myself.
I’m starting to feel like I’m just not good enough, and maybe I’d be better off just quitting and getting a more practical job.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s great that you have a passion for writing, and it’s something that you should definitely hold on to.
Unfortunately following your dreams isn’t always easy, but with some persistence, you will get there.
Perhaps it would be worth considering some internships or studying a journalism course to get you through the door.
My support pack Want To Be A Writer? also has some great tips that may help.
