I’m A Celeb’s Joel Dommett to host ITV’s version of Asian talent show The Masked Singer in first prime-time role – The SunJuly 22, 2019
HIS star has been rising since he was runner-up on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2016 and now Joel Dommett has landed his first prime-time ITV show.
The comedian-turned-presenter will host the channel’s latest Saturday talent show The Masked Singer. Bosses hope they can turn him into the next Dermot O’Leary.
The role comes after he impressed producers fronting ITV2’s comedy quiz show Hey Tracey! this summer.
The Masked Singer sees 12 famous names don head-to-toe costumes to belt out songs before a panel of celebrity judges.
The show originated in South Korea and its US version, screened at the start of this year, got 12million viewers.
It was ordered by the network earlier this year and is due to begin filming over the next few months.
A industry source said: “Joel has impressed head honchos at ITV and they think he is the perfect fit for this zany show.
“They’re hoping he can help make this new series a hit, especially after The X Factor and The Voice have failed recently to bring in the big audiences.” The gig has been a long time coming for Joel, who has had a series of false starts.
Speaking a couple of years ago, he said: “Everything I do gets cancelled after one series, so that becomes edgy.
“Sky One’s Bring The Noise, cancelled. Reality Bites, cancelled.”
Joel will continue to host I’m A Celebrity’s Extra Camp in Australia this autumn after Scarlett Moffatt and Joe Swash announced they were quitting the ITV2 show, but bosses are yet to announce who his co-host will be.
I’m free, Joel . . .
