Hunt for attacker after woman in her 20s is raped in an alleyway in Kent in the early hours

  • A young woman was punched and raped in Sheerness, Kent, at 1am this morning
  • The incident took place in an alleyway between Alma Road and Berridge Road 
  • Police are hunting for a heavily built balding man, wearing a grey hooded top 
  • People in the area are encouraged to check dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage
  • The attacker is not believed to have known his victim, according to police

Police are searching for a man who punched and raped a female victim in an alleyway in Kent.

The victim, in her 20s, was attacked just an hour before the clocks went back last night.

Police said the attacker was heavily built and wearing a dark hooded top. 

The rape happened in an alley between Alma Road and Berridge Road in Sheerness, Kent.

Officers said they were examining CCTV footage taken from cameras in the area.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said: ‘We are appealing for information after a woman reported being raped in an alleyway in Sheerness. The incident happened at around 1am today. 

‘The suspect is believed to be white, of heavy build, balding and wearing a dark grey hooded top and light grey trousers.’ 

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kimber of Kent Police said: ‘We are making a number of inquiries and have already seized a significant amount of CCTV and gathered forensic evidence.

‘Stranger incidents of this nature are rare and we are committed to ensuring a thorough investigation whilst supporting the victim throughout the process.

‘I would ask people who were in the area in the early hours of today to review any dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage and contact us if they have captured images that will assist us. 

‘Alternatively, if anyone witnessed anything suspicious or has any information about the incident, please call the witness appeal line.’
