Huge fire breaks out in flats in London’s Tower Hamlets with column of black smoke visible from M25
- Flames ripped through the top of Bow House business centre on Fairfield Road
A huge fire has broken out in London’s Tower Hamlets with plumes of black smoke visible from the M25.
Video footage shown on social media shows the flames ripping through the top of Bow House business centre, on Fairfield Road, Bow.
Shocked commuters travelling on the Elizabeth Line through Stratford also posted footage showing the huge clouds of black smoke filling the capital’s skyline.
Smoke from the burning building can be seen for miles, with some posting photos of the incident from the opposite side of the capital in London Bridge.
London Fire Brigade said 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters were in attendance.
Most of the roof of the six floor building is said to be alight. People are being urged to avoid the area.

Plumes of smoke can be seen from as far away as the M25
Emergency services rushed to the scene after 120 calls were made to 999, as the fire is ‘very visible’, according to the brigade.
Crowds of onlookers gathered near to the building as they watched fire officers try and put out the flames.
Fire crews from Bethnal Green, Whitechapel, Homerton and surrounding fire stations are in attendance.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
Tower Hamlets police said on X, formally known as Twitter: ‘All emergency services are working hard to put out a fire on Bow Road, junction with Fairfield Road, E3. Please avoid the area and divert your routes.’
