Fifth victim of French Christmas market attack diesDecember 17, 2018
A fifth victim died Sunday of wounds inflicted during a deadly shooting spree at a Christmas market in France — and the gunman’s father said he was inspired by ISIS, according to reports.
Barto Pedro Orent-Niedzielski, 36, “has just passed away,” his brother wrote on Facebook, according to reports.
“He thanks you for the love and strength you have given him,” the message added.
Meanwhile, shooter Cherif Chekatt’s dad told French TV that his son believed ISIS was “fighting for a just cause,” according to reports.
Abdelkrim Chekatt said he tried to convince his 29-year-old son otherwise and denied knowing about his deadly plans.
“I would have reported him to the police, that way he would have not killed anyone or been killed himself,” the older man told France 2.
Cops hunted down and killed Cherif Chekatt during a gunfight on Thursday, two days after his deadly rampage in Strasbourg.
ISIS took credit for Chekatt’s attack, but French officials last week disputed the claim.
