‘A goal like that was worthy of losing one’s mind’: Hilarious moment Brazilian fan is scolded by his wife for shirtless celebration at World Cup in Qatar after Richarlison scores with sensational bicycle kick

  • Brazilian native Clovis Carvalho was reprimanded by his wife, Fernanda Tonin, for removing his shirt to celebrate Richarlison’s goal for Brazil on Thursday
  • The couple attended the Brazilian national team’s World Cup opening match against Serbia and Carvalho was shown on television shirtless after the goal
  • Tonin was taken aback by the exuberant celebration and could be seen on television gesturing to Carvalho to put his jersey back on

A fan had some explaining to do to his wife after he took of his jersey and celebrated Richarlison’s acrobatic kick in Brazil’s World Cup opening victory.

Veterinarian Clovis Carvalho, 34, was shown on television without his Brazilian jersey as he jumped for joy moments after Richarlison scored what many consider to be the goal of the tournament against Serbia last Thursday at Lusail Stadium.

‘A goal like that was worthy of losing one’s mind,’ Carvalho told Brazilian news outlet G1 of the goal that helped seal the 2-0 victory.

Fernanda and Clovis have been living in Qatar for four years. The Brazilian natives have attended their national team’s first two World Cup matches, both victories

Richarlison’s volley kicks is considered by many so far to be the goal of the World Cup

Carvalho’s appearance immediately became an instant viral moment with friends and family back home in Brazil, but drew the scolding of his architect wife, Fernanda Tonin, 28, who could be seen on television gesturing at him with her hands.

‘When I saw that he had taken his shirt off to celebrate the goal, I immediately asked him to put it back on,’ Tonin told Brazilian news outlet G1. ‘I don’t think even he realized what he had just done.’

The couple has been living in Qatar for four years and Tonin understood that Carvalho’s celebration may have been perceived as offensive.

‘Taking your shirt off in the stadium could offend Arab women and men in the stadium,’ she said. ‘We have always been highly respected here, so we always do our best to respect their culture as well.’

Carvalho said his celebration may have been taken ‘in stride’ by Qatari fans at the game, ‘but I really sinned in having done that! It wasn’t a nice gesture.’

The couple also attended Brazil’s 1-0 victory over Switzerland at Stadium 974 on Monday.

All cameras will be on Carvalho should Brazil win its sixth World Cup title and first since 2002.
