This is the heart-stopping moment a snowboarder falls face flat onto fresh snow as he dives from a steep cliff.

The footage shows the unnamed winter sports enthusiast leap over the rugged cliff before hitting a small tree upon his descent in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada.

After bumping into the tree, the snowboarder belly flops onto the snow before managing to get up and continue moving.

During the heart-pounding scene he approaches the steep cliff before launching himself off it

His snowboard hits a small tree as he descends causing his landing to not go quite as planned

During the nail-biting video, the daredevil’s descent is scuppered by the small tree near the top of the cliff causing his landing to be ruined.

As he falls onto the snow he is momentarily obscured from view beneath the clouds of white snow.

However he skillfully manages to get back onto this feet and gain his balance before continuing to snowboard down the steep slope.

He falls face forwards onto the snow after his descent is scuppered by the small tree near the top of the cliff

The skillful snowboarder manages to regain his balance and get back up almost immediately

This is not the first time a snowboarder has been filmed in a stunt that did not go quite to plan. 

In 2015, a short video emerged of a snowboarder attempting to record himself  snowboarding in the Chiisagata District, Japan, on a selfie stick.

As the confident snowboarder adjusted the camera he was knocked to the ground by an approaching chairlift behind him.
