Art teacher who chatted with pupil, 14, online and invited him to meet her on a date is banned from classroom – The Sun

A TEACHER has been banned from the classroom for having online chats with a pupil and inviting him to meet her on a date.

Art mistress Laura MacLeod told the lad, 14, where she’d be out of hours and responded “inappropriately” to his messages of affection.

MacLeod was working at Forrester High in Edinburgh when she and the boy grew close in 2010.

The General Teaching Council for Scotland revealed she agreed to be removed from the teaching register after admitting charges against her.

MacLeod accepted she had “lengthy conversations” with the pupil over six months in 2010 and called him by his nickname.

By admitting to the relationship — claimed to have affected her ability to teach — she’ll avoid a full disciplinary probe and can potentially be reinstated to the roll in 2019.

A GTCS ruling note said: “In light of the respondent’s consent to remove her name from the register, the panel decided to direct that it be so removed and she should be prohibited from applying for re-registration for two years."

Despite the school ban, MacLeod still holds regular workshops at a church under the banner Edinburgh Art for All.

She told on Facebook last month how she’s due to take up a job at Sumburgh Head Lighthouse, Shetland.

MacLeod refused to comment last night.
