Another Former Royal Has Just Moved to America…Here’s What We KnowNovember 18, 2021
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aren’t the only members of a royal family who moved on in search of a simpler life. Princess Mako of Japan recently did just that, and now, she’s ready to begin her new life in the United States.
Last month, Mako, who is the niece of Emperor Naruhito, relinquished her official title so she could marry commoner Kei Komuro. Now, it appears the happy couple has arrived in New York City where they were spotted at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
After their flight, the pair exited the airport and entered a vehicle. According to the New York Post, the couple has moved into a one-bedroom apartment in Hell’s Kitchen. Komuro currently works at a law firm, while Mako is waiting on a work visa.
Similar to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the newlyweds are set to be financially independent. (Mako reportedly turned down a $1.23 million payment that she was entitled to after giving up her royal title to marry Komuro.)
The couple met while attending Tokyo’s International Christian University a decade ago and announced their plans to marry back in 2017. The duo tied the knot in October in an intimate ceremony followed by a press conference with local media outlets.
Maybe during Meghan and Harry’s next visit to the east coast, they can meet up with these two and compare notes on post-royal life .
