Will Priyanka Chopra be Godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Baby?
December 22, 2018With their royal baby’s due date approaching, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are likely already thinking about the future — starting with who will be their first-born’s godparents? Like all royal babies, Baby Sussex will likely be baptized in the family’s private London chapel at St. James’s Palace. However, they won’t name Prince William and Kate Middleton godparents to their son or daughter.
In the royal family, siblings aren’t usually named as godparents. Instead, close friends of the mother and father are often selected. Case in point: Prince Harry and Prince William’s long-time friend, Guy Pelly is godfather to Prince George. Will Priyanka Chopra be named godmother to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby? Find out why she’s a top contender, ahead.

Priyanka Chopra
As one of Meghan Markle’s closest friends, many think she could be one of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby’s godparents (royal babies usually have a few godmothers and godfathers). Meghan and Priyanka have supported each other throughout their careers as actresses and marriages. And, although Meghan did not attend Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s wedding, the two are still very close.
That said, their long-distance friendship could be the reason Meghan opts for someone closer to the family — like Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie.
Who will be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby’s godmother?
In addition to Priyanka Chopra, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a few other top contenders to choose from. Here are some of our predictions for possible godparents to the new prince or princess.
Princess Eugenie
While siblings are usually off-limits, cousins might be allowed. If that’s the case, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could name Princess Eugenie as their baby’s godmother. The newlywed is ultra-close with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (they even traveled together when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were dating!) and live close by on the grounds of Kensington Palace (though the Sussex family is moving in the new year). If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle name Princess Eugenie their baby’s godmother, we wouldn’t be surprised.
Jessica Mulroney
Meghan Markle’s bestie, Jessica Mulroney could also be at the top of the Duke and Duchess’s list of potential royal godmothers. As one of Meghan Markle’s oldest and most trusted girlfriends, Jessica Mulroney is an excellent choice for godmother. The Canadian stylist also has three kids of her own — all of which served as part of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bridal party back in May 2018.
Serena Williams
Tennis pro, Serena Williams is another potential godmother for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby. The duchess and Serena have been friends for over four years and Meghan considers her one of her closest friends and confidantes. If Meghan Markle is already making her list of promising godparents, Serena Williams is, without a doubt, on it.
Benita Litt
Meghan Markle’s close friend, Benita Litt could also be a top contender. The two met long before Meghan joined the royal family and the two are ultra-close. Meghan is Benita’s daughters, Remi and Rylan’s godmother.
