Why three-times married Jennifer Lopez is settling down with baseball star Alex Rodriguez despite swearing never to marry againMarch 10, 2019
But after three decades and six engagement rings worth a combined £10million, her latest bling is unlikely to be cashed in at the pawnbrokers.
Jennifer showed off her £3.5million ring on Instagram to announce her engagement to former US sports star Alex Rodriguez, who she calls her “twin soul”.
The couple have gone through rocky patches — and just nine months ago the singer decided she was unlikely to get married again as she approaches her 50th birthday in July.
But maybe the turnaround is not so surprising as J-Lo and 43-year-old A-Rod have much more in common than trendy abbreviations for their names.
Jennifer said in an interview last year: “Both Alex and I are Latino. We are both self-made.
“He was always the hardest-working baseball player. We have the same work ethic.
“Coming from nothing, we want to try to help and give back and teach our kids that.”
Alex and Jennifer each have two children. J-Lo’s 11-year-old twins Max and Emmi are from her ten-year marriage to singer Marc Anthony, while Alex has daughters Natasha, 14, and Ella, ten, from ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis, who he was married to for six years.
The native new New Yorkers also have a huge net worth — J-Lo’s is estimated at £307m while Alex comes in at £268m.
Yet perhaps their biggest similarity is a long list of exes — many of them famous — that has sometimes times overshadowed their careers.
Jennifer met first husband Ojani Noa in Miami and married him in February 1997, just one month before her first starring role in movie Selena. She divorced the waiter 11 months later.
In 1998, J.Lo began a two-year relationship with P Diddy — then known as Puff Daddy.
The pair became a Hollywood power couple. She accompanied the rapper — real name Sean Combs — to the 2000 Grammys where she wore her famous plunging Versace green silk chiffon dress.
But their relationship was fraught with tension after they fled a New York nightclub shooting the previous year. Both had charges against them dropped.
After they split, Jennifer met dancer Cris Judd on the set of her Love Don’t Cost A Thing video and married him in September 2001.
But Hollywood hunk Ben Affleck gave Jennifer flowers in front of Cris at the opening of her Cuban restaurant Madres in California in April 2002.
And two months later Cris and J-Lo split. They divorced the following year.
Affleck’s persistence paid off in what became Jennifer’s highest-profile romance.
Their relationship was best known for the film Gigli, directed by Affleck featuring Jennifer as the main star. It was savaged by the critics.
The pair started dating before Jennifer’s divorce was made final and they got engaged in November 2002.
But their wedding was called off just hours before the event. They stayed together until calling it quits in 2004. Next up was fellow Latino star Marc Anthony.
They briefly dated in the late 1990s and reunited in 2003 when Anthony separated from actress wife Dayanara Torres.
They married in June 2004 — just four days after Anthony’s divorce was final.
Jen and Anthony had twins in 2008 but announced their divorce in July 2011 — six years before she started dating Alex.
The ex-New York Yankees player first tied the knot in 2002 after meeting psychology graduate Cynthia Scurtis at a gym in Miami.
The mother of his two daughters filed for divorce six years later citing “emotional abandonment” of her and their kids as well as her husband having “extramarital affairs”.
Rodriguez responded in court documents that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” but requested that allegations of his “extramarital affairs” be stricken from court records.
A former pal claimed Alex had an affair with Madonna — who was married to Guy Ritchie at the time. Madonna denied the claim.
Following the end of his marriage, he used his increased profile to date Hollywood A-listers. In 2009 he had a short relationship with Almost Famous actress Kate Hudson before dating Cameron Diaz the following year.
The Charlie’s Angel beauty struggled to get over the split, revealing in 2012: “When I was going through a bit of a heartbreak, I said to a friend, ‘Wow, this really hurts!’”
Later that year he was seen on a date with Demi Moore, fresh from her split from toyboy husband Ashton Kutcher.
He also dated former WWE wrestler Torrie Wilson for three years. They split in 2015 after pals said Alex “wasn’t ready to settle down”.
Then, in 2017, he met J-Lo. Their belief that fate brought them together created a bond which helped them stay together following cheating claims made against Alex.
Lauren Hunter, 34, who has known Alex since 2011, claimed he has been unfaithful to the singer. She also says he likes threesomes, rough sex, and getting her to dress in schoolgirl outfits.
She alleged Alex asked her to fly to Kansas City where he was covering a Yankies game in his role as a sports pundit for US TV.
And she also believes Alex is not “sexually attracted” to J-Lo, adding: “In bed with her, he’s probably picturing me.”
As well as cheating rumours, Alex also had to deal with internet gossip surrounding his sexuality — despite his list of Hollywood actress exes.
But Jennifer has remained loyal to Alex, who continues to fawn over her on social media.
Marriage, however, looked off the cards last year when the singer appeared to rule out the chance of nuptials.
She said: “We’re both in a good place in our lives.
“Maybe if we would have met in our 20s. . . ”
Given their parallel lives, it’s surprising the two of them didn’t.
A-ROD married the singer in 2002 but she filed for divorce in 2008, three months after the birth of their second daughter.
THE actress dated A-Rod in 2009 but reportedly ended it because she felt he wasn’t over another ex . . . Madonna.
THEY dated for more than a year but it ended in 2011. “I have a lot of love for Cameron,” he said. “We’ll always be friends.”
AFTER three years of high-profile dating, Alex split from the model, WWE wrestler and former Miss Galaxy in 2015.
THE pair had a fling in 2012 after the Indecent Proposal actress had parted from her then-hubby Ashton Kutcher.
WAITER married J-Lo in 1997. They divorced ten months later.
SHE dated the rapper turned entrepreneur between 1998 and 2000 and the pair remain good friends.
J-LO married the dancer in 2001 but they split nine months on.
GOT engaged in late 2002 but called it off and split in 2004.
MARRIED in 2004 but split in 2011. Have twins Emme and Max.
