Is Piers Morgan leaving Good Morning Britain?
ITV have released a statement to confirm that Piers Morgan has QUIT the breakfast show.
The statement read: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."
ITV received the most Ofcom complaints in a decade following his rant about the Duchess of Sussex.
More than 41,000 viewers made a complaint against him.
The TV host disregarded Meghan's claims to have had issues with her mental health.
Piers claimed he was "sickened" by Meghan for "trashing" the Royal Family as "white supremacists" during her interview with Oprah Winfrey.
A petition to sack him from GMB over his comments had amassed more than 88,000 signatures.
But in an earlier tweet, he wrote: "Lots of people on here want me fired for expressing my opinion on the Pinocchio Princess.
“If you want to join them, there are various petitions still doing the rounds from the last few times you've all tried, and failed, to have me fired for saying what I think.”
An ITV source said the controversial host was asked to apologise on Tuesday, March 9, and he refused which "ended with him telling producers he would not host the show any more".
They added: "“His contract was coming to an end this year anyway, but he said he wouldn’t do the job unless it was on his terms."
A day after he quit Piers tweeted that "freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on".
He also quoted Sir Winston Churchill referencing free speech and signed off by writing: “I’m off to spend more time with my opinions."
Piers joined Good Morning Britain as a permanent host in November 2015.
Has Piers Morgan threatened to leave GMB before?
He sure has – a few times in fact.
In December 2019 Piers claimed he would quit when his two year contract came to an end.
Speaking on the show he said: "I've got two more years. Two more years of Stories… anyway that's it, two more years and then I'll sail off into the sunset."
Piers added later on in the show: "And I guarantee then I'll be out."
Where will Piers Morgan appear next?
Piers is set to appear in a tell-all interview with Fox Nation’s Tucker Carlson on April 5, 2021.
He is expected to reveal in detail why he decided to walk away from his role on the ITV show following the fall out over his comments.
An insider said: “Piers is keen for US viewers to get the full story and he of course will make his feelings crystal clear again about what Meghan and Harry claimed and speak his truth.
“He hopes people might look at the Oprah interview a little differently afterwards.”
The Sun reported how Piers is set to “go nuclear” in his first major interview since leaving GMB.
