We take a look

Here's the lowdown on last year's winning single…

Who was Christmas Number One in 2017?

In 2017 the Christmas number one was Perfect by Ed Sheeran.

The track which Ed penned for his fiancée Cherry Seaborn got 85,000 combined sales in the week before Christmas.

Speaking about his win, Ed said: “Thank you very much for making Perfect Christmas Number 1.

"This is an actual dream come true and I’m very proud and happy."

"Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays and a Happy New Year.”

Ed also featured on the track that got Christmas No2 – River by Eminem.

Who was in the running for the UK Christmas Number One 2017?

Ed was a heavy favourite with bookmakers but here's who else was in with a shot…

  • Wham!/George Michael
  • Rita Ora
  • Mariah Carey
  • Adele
  • Rak Su
  • Choirs With Purpose
  • MC Big Shaq
  • Ariana Grande
  • Stormzy
  • Taylor Swift

Who will be the Christmas Number One for 2018?

An unlikely contender for Christmas Number One is Mark Hoyle aka LadBaby – a parenting YouTuber, who was named Celebrity Dad of the Year 2018.

He's released a charity cover of Starship's We Built This City (on sausage rolls).

But he'll have to beat Ariana Grande who's still currently favourite to top the charts this Christmas.

US breakthrough act Ava Max is also a contender with her song Sweet But Psycho.

X Factor winner Dalton Harris released his cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's The Power Of Love but the show's winner hasn't had a Christmas Number One since Ben Haenow in 2014.
