He acts as the maître d during filming for the show, but spends the rest of his time working as the manager of the extremely plush Galvin at Windows, a Michelin-starred restaurant on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane.

The suave 46-year-old has become the nation’s Gallic answer to Cilla Black with his advice on love, lust and broken hearts.

How does First Dates work?

The British reality programme brings singletons together for a blind date – but there’s a twist.

Every corner of the restaurant is patrolled, with the 42 cameras picking up every excruciating detail, including chats in the toilet.

At the end of the date, the couples have to reveal whether or not they’d like to see each other again.

Some leave hand in hand and go to another bar, while others are forced to take a taxi home alone.
