TV comedy hit Modern Family to finish in 2020

The US comedy Modern Family will end with an 11th season which will begin airing later this year.

That means the series, which has become one of the most successful US television comedies, will air its final episode in May of 2020.

The series revolves around the Pritchett family, composed of father Jay (Ed O'Neill), his second wife Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and their children Manny (Rico Rodriguez) and Joe (Jeremy Maguire), and the families of Jay's two adult children.

They are daughter Claire (Julie Bowen) and her husband Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) and their children Haley (Sarah Hyland), Alex (Ariel Winter) and Luke (Nolan Gould), and son Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his husband Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and their daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons).

The series had a five-year unbroken run of winning the Emmy award for outstanding comedy series between 2010 and 2014.

Three of its actors – Eric Stonestreet, Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen – have also won two Emmy awards apiece for their work on the series.

The series has received, across all disciplines, a total of 28 Emmy awards.
