'The Vampire Diaries': 1 Star Has Written for Both 'The Originals' and 'Legacies'

June 13, 2022

The Vampire Diaries ran for eight seasons on The CW, and it started a universe after the show created two spinoffs — The Originals and Legacies. The Originals lasted five seasons, while Legacies ran for four seasons and will air its series finale on June 16, 2022. And while many members of the original cast of The Vampire Diaries went on to reprise their roles on the other shows, one actor wrote scripts for both spinoffs.

‘The Vampire Diaries’ star Marguerite MacIntyre wrote scripts for ‘The Originals’ and ‘Legacies’

Per IMDb, The Vampire Diaries star Marguerite MacIntyre was a staff writer on The Originals from 2013 to 2014 and a story editor from 2014 to 2015. She wrote nine episodes, including her return during the final season in 2018 to write three episodes.

MacIntyre also became a staff writer on Legacies in 2018, and she wrote two episodes for the second The Vampire Diaries spinoff.

Although she has had success as a screenwriter, most The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies fans know MacIntyre as Sheriff Liz Forbes. The actor played Caroline’s mother on the original show for six years until Liz died from cancer in season 6. MacIntyre returned briefly as a ghost watching over Caroline in The Vampire Diaries series finale.

The actor is adapting a new series with Julie Plec

Although The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies have ended or are about to, fans can still look forward to another vampire series in the future.

According to Deadline, Julie Plec, the co-creator of The Vampire Diaries universe, and Marguerite MacIntyre are adapting the young adult book series Vampire Academy into a television series. And Peacock awarded the show a straight-to-series order, which will consist of 10 episodes.

The Vampire Academy series contains six books, all written by Richelle Mead. Like The Vampire Diaries, the upcoming series will delve deep into the supernatural world and explore many scandalous topics. Vampire Academy centers around two best friends — Rosemarie “Rose” Hathaway and Vasilisa “Lissa” Dragomir. Rose is half-human, half-vampire, and Lissa is a moroi.

Following The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies, Plec will serve as the co-showrunner and executive producer of Vampire Academy. Meanwhile, MacIntyre will also be a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. The series is expected to arrive sometime in 2022.

The ‘Legacies’ series finale may feature many ‘The Vampire Diaries’ cameos

Fans are heartbroken to learn that The Vampire Diaries universe ends with Legacies. However, Julie Plec may still have a few tricks up her sleeve.

“I can speak for [Legacies] in saying that Brett [Matthews] and I and the writing team poured all kinds of love into it,” Plec wrote on Twitter. “And there are a couple surprises for long-time [The Vampire Diaries universe] fans that may just blow your mind.”

While Plec didn’t outright say it, the Legacies series finale might contain a few exciting cameos. Perhaps Marguerite MacIntyre could appear as a ghost in the final episode? Anything is possible when it comes to The Vampire Diaries.

The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies are available to stream on Netflix.
